You are the only thing
that my heart will now allow

occupy all my thoughts now
remembering stories of a daughter
who just wanted to be taller
so she tied her hands together

still echo in my skin

I can’t stand for this to be the end

like the story of the daughter
who did nothing but get smaller
we play out the stories we’ve rehearsed
falling off that morning getting worse

fit the hollowness within
a little farther up the road
