About
Contemplicity.com
Contemplicity.com was first registered in February 2002. Previous incarnations of this site were hosted on Angelfire.com from 1996 until 1998, and (the now extinct) Geocities.com from 1998 until 2002.
The original site started out as an online photo album. Over time it grew to include a blog, poetry, short stories, drawings, paintings, rants, essays, and much more. Eventually the site became too massive for me to maintain. Different sections of the site each took on their own unique looks, as well as their own coding problems.
Overtime I opted to use the free automated services such as LiveJournal, Deviantart, Flickr, and Facebook to replace my need for a personal domain. While easier, this option began to create another problem. It was too difficult for friends and family to keep up with what I was doing online. Because of that, Contemplicity.com was recreated to serve as a nexus for my digital life.
Contemplicity.com currently runs on the WordPress publishing platform and is hosted by Site5.
The Webmaster.
Contemplicity.com is populated and maintained by me, Jöshua Arron Barnett.
When I was younger I was fascinated by the internet, digital technology and cyber culture. This interest drove me to learn more and eventually left me with a decent understanding of computers. As time went on I accidently formed a career out of this interest. I have provided technical support for small companies, colleges, medium sized utilities, software companies and international ISPs. Around this time I was also maintaining file transfer sites, online file storage, and multiple websites (including Contemplicity.com) from a few servers in my house.
I have grown out of that phase. My interest are more diverse these days. I am most passionate about music, photography, and physics/astronomy. Some of my other interests include dinosaurs, languages, religion, ancient mythology, and philosophy. I enjoy learning and am usually reading up on some topic (be it online, in a book, or periodical).
I enjoy traveling more than almost anything else. I take great pleasure in experiencing different cultures, learning new ways of doing things, and trying new foods when I travel. I believe the world would be a better place if we took the time to learn from our differences and to share as much of our histories and cultures as possible. My dream job would be traveling the world and sharing my experiences with others through photography, film and/or writing.
I believe in Global Warming. I understand that the world goes through cycles of temperature fluctuation, but I believe mankind has played a role in the current trend. I don’t preach to people about wasted energy, and I don’t pick up every piece of garbage I see in the streets; however, I like to think I have lessened my own impact on the world. I recycle, drive a fuel efficient car, own canvas grocery bags, and take other small steps everyday. These steps help the environment, and they save me money in the long run. It’s a winning situation for everyone in my opinion.
