    Phantom Vibration Syndrome

    Phantom Vibration Syndrome

So here is a weird/interesting/scary thought… apparently our mobile phones are rewiring the way our brains work. Of the many ways new technologies are affecting our brains, the one I know I’ve experienced several times is Phantom Vibration Syndrome. This is a relatively new psychological phenomenon where you think your phone is vibrating when it is not. It would seem that that technology has even begun to cause our own nervous system to rewire itself, triggering our brains in ways it has never had to before. I have experienced this phenomenon more times than I like to admit. It seems […]

    A level of expertise.

    A level of expertise.

A few months back, I was asked to consult with a renewable energy company based out of China. I did a little work for them, with the possibility of more consulting in the future. For various reasons I didn’t say a lot about the job, but I bring it up now because I’ve been asked to consult with another company. Over the past month, I’ve been in contact with some people from the University of Arizona. I was invited to offer my expertise to an office of the University dedicated to investigating the commercial viability of technologies developed at university […]

    Human Immortality

    Human Immortality

People are always telling me how they were born in the wrong time. I have so many friends, acquaintances, and coworkers who say they would be very happy to have been born sometime between the 1900 and 1960. The very idea of that seems so bizarre and alien to me. Why would you want to be born in any time before now? How much would you miss all the advancements and conveniences of modern life? Why would you want to deal with all the ignorance, mistakes, and problems of the past? Is it the promise of a more simple life […]

    Taking the director’s chair.

    Taking the director’s chair.

Ever since getting back from the Las Vegas office, I’ve been putting most of my time into working with a team to put together a live international broadcast for our company. The event went off without a hitch, but the preparation and actual broadcast were some of the most demanding experiences of my career. In the end I had a blast working on this project and am actually starting to look forward to the next one. It took weeks of testing, stressing, troubleshooting, and long nights but it was worth it for a flawless live event. A picture from our […]

J Pop Summit and Pocky Eating Contest

J Pop Summit and Pocky Eating Contest

Anna and I recently hit up San Francisco’s J-Pop Summit Festival. This three day event has J-Pop fans and otaku taking over Japantown all weekend long. We had a blast when we went last year, and had no hesitations about attending again. However, this year was absolutely packed! But we didn’t just go to the festival, we were lucky enough to snag two spots in this year’s Pocky Eating Contest. While we didn’t win the contest, we did end up with enough Pocky to last us for the rest of the year. The Pocky Eating Contest Saturday morning the area […]

    Working from the Vegas office.

    Working from the Vegas office.

I spent this past week working out of one of my company’s Las Vegas offices. The goal was to meet the team out there, provide them with some training and make some connections for my department. Aside from that, the trip happened to correspond with the Las Vegas office’s one year anniversary (and funnily enough my one year anniversary with the company). I also was invited to an industry party which happened at a nightclub the same week. All in all it was a pretty productive, busy, and entertaining work trip. At the start of the week, I got the […]
